Drawing from the minimalist - leaning constructivism of Malevich, “Neutral Shapes” is the product of the artist’s fascination with simplicity and order. While exploring a modern art museum, they were drawn to the clean lines and basic forms of early constructivist pieces. But they wanted to add a personal, tactile twist. So, they started collecting old, weathered wood panels, their surfaces bearing the marks of time—subtle grays, faded beiges, and the warm brown of aged wood. Back in the studio, they cut these panels into geometric shapes, arranging and rearranging them like a three - dimensional puzzle before transferring the composition to canvas. The brown line, a last - minute addition, came from the idea of a “connecting thread” in the otherwise - neutral world of shapes, inspired by the way architectural lines guide the eye. It’s a perfect fit for a minimalist office, where its clean forms can complement a clutter - free workspace, or a neutral - toned hallway, adding a touch of understated artistic sophistication. This artwork is a meditation on form, texture, and the beauty of simplicity, a result of the artist’s deep dive into art history and their desire to make those minimalist principles feel warm and lived - in.
