Drawing from the minimalist - leaning constructivism of Malevich, “Neutral Shapes” is the product of the artist’s fascination with simplicity and order. So, they started collecting old, weathered wood panels, their surfaces bearing the marks of time—subtle grays, faded beiges, and the warm brown of aged wood. Back in the studio, they cut these panels into geometric shapes, arranging and rearranging them like a three - dimensional puzzle before transferring the composition to canvas. The brown line, a last - minute addition, came from the idea of a “connecting thread” in the otherwise - neutral world of shapes, inspired by the way architectural lines guide the eye.
